Former Alaska resident Ethelyn L. "Nana" Yates, 98, of Elizabeth, W.Va., died Feb. 19. 2008, at her home with her granddaughter by her side.
As she wished, there will be no service. She will be laid to rest by her husband in Alaska.
She was born Aug. 1, 1909, in Beatrice, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Ada Klassen.
She was the wife of the late John Yates.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, crocheting, sitting on the porch and watching the birds and the deer, being with her family and her always full cup of coffee.
Ethelyn was an Alaska resident from the mid 1940s until 2001.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Greg Quinton of Anchorage, Mark Torkelson of Palmer, Cyndi Torkelson of Elizabeth, Jodie and Misipati Tupuola, Gerald and Lori Matheny of Elizabeth, Charlene Wise of Wasilla and David Marant of Palm Springs, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Travis Torkelson of Big Lake, Breanna Talbert of Elizabeth, Reed and Michelle Quinton of Soldotna, Lyndsay Torkelson of Wasilla, Rory Marant of Fountain Valley, Calif., Brittany Copen of Elizabeth and Jared and Alexis Tupuola of Anchorage; great-great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jewleea Talbert of Elizabeth, Brystal Bush of Wasilla and Lily Talbert of Elizabeth; and many other loved and cherished family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister, three daughters, one son and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are with Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth.
