Anchorage resident Richard Roy Spohnholz, 56, died Feb. 27, 2008, at Providence Alaska Medical Center from complications of a brain aneurysm.
Richard was born Jan. 8, 1952, in Rockford, Ill., to Clifford and Mary Ann Spohnholz. He and his family moved to Alaska in the early 1960s and homesteaded at Lane Creek, north of Talkeetna. He graduated from Dimond High School in 1970 and obtained his associate's degree from Anchorage Community college in airplane mechanics.
He married the love of his life, Theresa, on Sept. 10, 1976 in Anchorage. He and his family operated Alaska Spring for many years before working at L.M. Berry Co. as an account executive.
Richard coached both soccer and hockey for many years in Anchorage. When not cooking gourmet meals with family and friends, he enjoyed motorcycling, snow machining, learning about baseball from his wife and spending time outdoors.
"Richard's generousity and wit will be remembered by all who knew him," his family recalled. "He lived his life well and will be missed."
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; sons, Jason and Rudy; and daughter, Katie; granddaugher, Aryana; brothers, Ronald and Randy; and sister, Sherrie Spohnholz, all of Anchorage.
Mr. Spohnholz was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie; his parents; and brother, Floyd.
