Eagle River resident Stacey L. Johnston, 42, was found deceased July 28, 2007, in a vehicle on the Glenn Highway at Peters Creek.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the family plot in New Hope, Texas.
Stacey was born Feb. 21, 1965, in West Monroe, La., to Jerry and Martha Curlee. Stacey attended schools in Texas, Oklahoma and Alaska, before graduating from Chugiak High School in 1983. She attended San Angelo State University in Texas and later graduated from flight attendant school in Arlington, Texas.
Stacey met and fell in love with David Johnston of Oklahoma. They returned to Alaska and were married. She worked as a flight attendant for Reeve Aleutian Airways. She became a mother and owner of family-owned Leather Co., as well as various other short-term occupations.
Stacey loved animals, especially horses and dogs. She took in all strays. She had a passion for competing in rodeo barrel racing and won many ribbons and belt buckles. She loved country music and dancing.
Her family wrote: "Stacey lived life to the fullest and loved everyone she came into contact with including all animals. They loved her back! Through all her setbacks she always had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile on her face. She will be missed."
Stacey is survived by her father and mother, Jerry and Martha Curlee of Eagle River; brother, David of Anchorage; sister, Kelley Craig of Spring, Texas; beloved daughter, Taylor Johnston and ex-husband, David Johnston of Chugiak; niece, Becca Curlee of Anchorage; nephew, Colton Craig of Spring, Texas; Plus many relatives and many friends scattered throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.
