Longtime Juneau resident Michael Ray Edenshaw died Feb. 29, 2008, at home in Juneau. He was 45.

He was born May 20, 1962, to Mary Ellen Lauth and Marvin Roy Edenshaw in Ketchikan, where they lived for a short time before moving to Juneau, where he graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School.

He worked various jobs but last worked at Northern Janitorial, where he did maintenance for Mountain View Senior Center and made many friends among the seniors, his family said.

He also enjoyed volunteering at the Grandmas Club, helping cook for many events such as Pioneer Days.

Known as "The Nice Guy," he was active in Rough House Boxing.

His family said he was also known as "Haida Mike" by many. He enjoyed riding his bike, fishing, camping, hunting and carving. According to his family, he sold many carvings that can be seen at hotels around Juneau.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandmother, Olive Natkong.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Edenshaw, of Juneau; daughters, Tina Sheakley and her husband, Ben, Josie Gibson and her husband, Jason, Angela McMurren and Kim Braman, all of Juneau; son, Randy Edenshaw, of Connecticut; mother, Mary Bolton and her husband, Larry, of Bonny Lake, Wash.; stepfather, James Hill and his wife, Annie, of Juneau; brothers, Steve Edenshaw and his wife, Anna, of Sitka, and Jim Hill Jr., of Washington; sister, Joanne Edenshaw, of Anchorage; and grandchildren, Mya and Dominick Sheakley, Dustin McMurren, Travis Jones, Diamond and Andrew Lancaster, Arianna Edenshaw, Rachel and Kory Braman and Tyler Hickman; great-granddaughter, Haley Braman, of Springfield, Ore.; mother-in-law, Mabel Buker, of Juneau; brother-in-law, Mike Jones, of Juneau; sister-in-law, Jennifer Cohern and her husband, Mike, of Washington; and numerous other relatives and friends throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.

A luncheon for family and friends will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Gruening Park Recreation Hall.
