Former Juneau resident Helen Marie Cavitt died Feb. 25, 2008, in Kansas. She was 81.

She was born in Lawrence, Kan., to Charles Ernest Seaman and Eva Catherine Brown Seaman. She and her husband, the Rev. Robert F. Cavitt, founded the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, now known as St. Brendan's Episcopal Church, near the Mendenhall Glacier.

The couple also founded St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Shawnee, Kan., and St. Francis Episcopal Church in Stilwell, Kan.

She was a retired administrative manager and homemaker. In her later years, she enjoyed her many friends, in particular, participating in the Red Hat Society, Stilwell Magnolias Chapter.

She is preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by three children, Bruce Cavitt, Barbara Cavitt Beedle and Roberta Cavitt; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Stilwell, Kan.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House at www.kansascityhospice.org or the American Cancer Society. The family extends its appreciation to the Kansas City Hospice House staff for their care and concern for her and her family.
