Lifelong Juneau resident David Harry Austin died Sept. 1, 2007, at Mount Edgecumbe Hospital. He was 59.
Born in 1948 in Sitka, he was a fisherman and carpenter.
Family members said he looked at life as an adventure. He knew that his illness was not going to regulate the rest of his life, they said. He lived life on his terms and passed on in the same manner. Family members said he will be missed.
He is survived by his mothers, Gertrude Peters, of Duncan, British Columbia, Betty Govina, of Juneau; fiancee, Emily Esquiro, of Juneau; daughter, Elsie Isaacs; grandchildren, Jaden Colbe Natkong and Helena Marie Isaacs-Natkong, of Craig; aunts, Mae George, of Juneau, and Marie Shodda, of Yakutat; brothers and sisters, John Austin, of Chicago, Lester Davis, of Sitka, Jeffrey Elisoff, of Tacoma, Wash., Joni Roberts, of Sitka, Jackie Everman-House, of Sitka, Patrick Lee Elisoff, of Juneau, Rosa L. Miyasato, of Tacoma, Earl "Junior" Peters, of Duncan, British Columbia, Lorissa Peters, of Duncan, Lydia Abeyta, Palmdale, Calif., and Tina Peters, of Duncan; 34 nieces and nephews; special niece, Alesa Keicher, of Juneau; and his cousins, who he grew up with, Reginald Peterson, of Sitka, and Lee George, of Sitka.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Swan Lake Senior Center in Sitka. A dinner will be held after the services. His family is honoring his last request of cremation
