AGIA Road Show Wraps Up In Ketchikan On Tuesday

Jamey Kirk

Lawmakers have entered the final stretch of the month-long Alaska Gas Initiative Act road tour with the final meeting wrapping up in Ketchikan on Tuesday. The road tour has offered members of several of Alaska's largest communities to weigh in on Gov. Sarah Palin's gas pipeline proposal.

Since the special session began on June 3, the legislature has visited Fairbanks, Anchorage, Palmer, Kenai and Barrow. Although the tour is almost over, lawmakers will not make a decision on TransCanada Corp.'s bid for a state license until August 2.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, TransCanada vice president Tony Palmer will discuss the company's proposal at the Ted Ferry Civic Center. Residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposal from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. later in the meeting.

On Wednesday legislators will return to Juneau for a second special session. A vote will determine whether or not TransCanada will be awarded the license to proceed with a gas line project.
