The Gavel Bangs In Juneau Once Again

Jamey Kirk

Juneau has become re-populated with lawmakers who spent the past month traveling around the state to hear the opinions of the people face-to-face and openly discuss the proposed natural gas pipeline in a series of open forms. The legislature has shifted its focus to several energy-related issues in addition to the on-going natural gas pipeline project.

Included in the proceedings will be Governor Sarah Palin's proposed energy relief plan, which would lift fuel tax fees and grant a $1,200 payment to most residents.

Palin's plan has been constructed into a series of bills, which will see review from the Senate Finance Committee. The House Finance Committee will also review the bills, after two other oversight committees have deliberated on the bills.

Hearings will resume Wednesday afternoon as the legislature discusses the in-state gas line and the state's dispute with Exxon Mobil Corp. Over the Point Thomson leases.
