South central Alaska was blanketed by snowfall for a better part of the day on Friday, with more snowfall expected to continue up until Saturday morning. Several inches are predicted for most of Anchorage and even more on the Hillside.

A snow advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for the entire Susistna Valley. Advisories are triggered when 6 inches or more are expected within 12 hours.

Since this morning over three inches of snowfall has accumulated in the Anchorage area, with total snowfall amounts expected to reach as high as 8 inches by Saturday.

The storm first arrived in Homer, and has since left the western part of the state covered in fresh powder.

In a NWS advisory the organization warns that, "A snow advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving."

Wednesday April 30 is the cutoff date for vehicles with studded tires. The public safety commissioner can extend the date if the weather is severe enough.
