Anchorage, AK - Senator John Cowdery has come under a great deal of scrutiny in a short deal of time on Thursday. First the state legislator was indicted on federal charges of bribery and conspiracy and now the state's Governor is calling for the senator's resignation.

According to government attorneys, Cowdery and former VECO executives conspired to bribe an unnamed state senator for his vote on a new oil tax proposed in 2006.

Cowdery is the fifth Alaska legislator to be charged in the ongoing federal investigation into corruption in Alaska politics.

Palin said that she was disturbed to discover that another public official has been charged with violating public trust. "I urge Senator Cowdery to step down, for the good of the state," she said.

No response was given by Senate President Lyda Green on Cowdery's indictment.
