Spooky Holiday Conjures Up Ghost Stories

Chad news

Halloween is supposed to be the night souls return to Earth trying to contact the living.

However, some people believe there are souls constantly wandering the earth existing in the same place as the living sometimes interacting with us. Whether that's true is up to you to decided, but before you do check out the story of some of south-central's most active local haunts.

Right off the Glenn Highway in Birchwood sits a small saloon where wine and spirits takes on a whole new meaning. Employees and patrons are often visited by a man named jack.

Tammy Working, bartender, said, "He's a nice ghost. He doesn't do anything bad; he just does little things to mess with your head a little bit."

Things like move around pool balls on the table where he used to play. You see, Jack's parents used to own the bar, and when he was only 26, he was electrocuted while working on top of a building next door. Employees say they've seen him standing in this back hallway still wearing the jeans and flannel shirt he loved so much in life.

Jack may stay here because the bar is a happy place for him, but in another place ghosts may stay because of something darker. At the historic Anchorage Hotel, some people say they've seen the spirit of a scorned bride who checked into her honeymoon suite alone and never checked out.

Terri Russi, general manager, said, "It was just this silhouette. This black, smoky silhouette that just disappeared inside the lamp shade."

It's not just late-night employees who report this kind of experience. Just last week three women were talking in a room. One of them looked over and said she saw a man wearing an old-time hat standing in the closet. When she tried to get the attention of her friends, the man vanished into thin air.

These types of reports come in from guests so frequently that two years ago the hotel started keeping a log. It's filled with stories like the woman in 215 who woke up to find another woman standing at the end of her bed, or two people who saw a picture fly off a wall in the lobby, or guests who say they hear kids playing in the hallway even though there are no kids in the hotel.

This place has so many stories it even attracted the attention of paranormal investigators who came in this weekend to see if they could find the spirits. The group didn't find any strong evidence but did have some weird experiences like batteries that would suddenly die then recharge within minutes.

Deana beard, Alaska Paranormal Investigators, said, "Well they say that spirits take a lot of energy so they could be draining energy from your batteries or using energy from your equipment to, to keep themselves going."

Without solid proof no one can say for sure if there are ghosts wandering the hallways or lying in bed with unassuming guests, but if you don't believe in ghosts, ghouls and goblins we dare you to spend a night.

Working said, "I'm a little bit skeptical, but some things just happen and there's no reason for it so."

Maybe you'll decide you're a believer after all.

These are just a few of the stories. Even in just two places you could fill an hour. If you want to know more or get in contact with the investigators, you can check out our website, aksuperstation.com.
