On Thursday a highly coordinated operation took place which resulted in the arrest of fugitive Shawn Micheal Phillips, and the additional arrests of Tamra Dee Phillips Gillespie and Michell Niccole Hendrickson. The three agencies responsible for the arrest included the U.S. Marshals Alaska Fugitive Task Force, the Alaska State Troopers and the Anchorage Police Department.

The arrest was made in a back-country operation, as law enforcement officials rode in on snowmachines like cowboys on horses.

According to the U.S. Marshals press release, "Phillips was wanted on a federal warrant for failure to abide with conditions of release on a federal drug charge and on a state felony warrant for failure to appear on a vehicle theft case."

Wanted by Alaska State Troopers for a probation violation on a driving under the influence case, Phillip's sister, Tamra Gillespie, is also the owner of the Forks Roadhouse.

Anchorage police wanted Hendrickson for a contempt of court on a misdemeanor case.

All three were apprehended without incident, even though it was believed that Phillips was armed and dangerous.

To concentrate apprehension efforts on state and federal fugitives, especially those wanted for crimes of violence, sexual abuse of children and drug trafficking, the Alaska Fugitive Task Force pools the full-time resources of Alaska State Troopers, Anchorage Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service along with other federal and local agencies.

Over 3200 fugitives in Alaska have been arrested and extradited since the inception of the task force in 1999. Over 100 of the extradited have gone to other jurisdictions from the United States.
