The Municipality of Anchorage averages about 1,400 burglaries per year, with many of them happening in broad daylight. Many people have misconceptions about burglary, according to the experts. They expect larger items, such as televisions or appliances, to be a main target for a thief. As ABC Alaska News found out, that couldn't be farther from the truth.

We teamed up with several local Allstate insurance employees to stage a home invasion. In broad daylight, our “burglars” smashed open a volunteer's window. With the clock ticking, they stole as many valuable items from the home as they could carry. In just two minutes, they made away with several thousand dollars in goods. Watch the video to see what the most common items a thief will look for, and tips on what you can do to protect yourself.
