Child Abduction Averted By Observant Mother

Tools

Jamey Kirk

It was around 7:30 Tuesday evening when a seven-year-old boy was confronted by a white male in a truck. The boy was a few feet from the truck, when his mother, who had been observing the scene from her home, called for him. The truck quickly sped off.

The woman, who resides in the 1100 block of West 77th Avenue, was told by her child that the man had asked him if he had seen the man's "puppy."

After giving the circumstances some consideration, the mother notified police Wednesday morning that she was concerned that the man was trying to entice or abduct her son or another child. The area is known for being normally busy with children playing in and around the streets.

According to the boy, the man is described as being bald, wearing prescription eyeglasses and is "older." The vehicle itself is described as being a newer U.S. made full-sized pick-up truck. The mother added that the truck was fairly clean, with the license plate being unusually dirty. She also mentioned that the truck bed had a gray tarp covering a large object.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or vehicle is asked to call the APD at 786-8900
