Anchorage police say one person is believed dead after a small plane crashed near Merrill Field in the city. Police Lt. Paul Honeman says the crash occurred late Wednedsay morning at the west end of the airport for small planes along the Glenn Highway. He said power lines were down in the area of 9th and Orca streets. Smoke was rising from the area of a commercial building before firefighters extinguished the flames.
