Water utility crews have been kept busy in South Central Alaska repairing lines that can not compete with the sub-zero temperatures.

Late Wednesday night a main water line broke in the Airport Heights neighborhood. The broken main went unnoticed until the following morning.

Traffic had to be re-routed as city crews cleaned up the mess and thawed out the ground enough to dig out the broken pipe, a task made more difficult with temperatures in the negative teens.

The Airport Heights incidnet is not an isolated case. The city has been repairing broken lines across Anchorage.
