ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The Coast Guard says a 58-foot fishing
boat has run aground in the Aleutian Islands and is in danger of
breaking up.
Petty Officer Walter Shinn says the agency took a relayed mayday
call at 4:38 a.m. Wednesday reporting that the Icy Mist, with four
crew members, was aground on Akutan Island.
They reported the vessel was taking water.
The Coast Guard Cutter Munro, two MH-60 Jayhawks deployed in St.
Paul and a HH-65 Dolphin in Dutch Harbor responded.
Shinn says the helicopter from Dutch Harbor was forced to return
because of winds that had gusts reaching 80 mph.
Akutan Island is 766 air miles southwest of Anchorage.
