Two House lawmakers are backing former Juneau Mayor Dennis Egan to fill the vacant state Senate seat left by Kim Elton.

Democrat Beth Kerttula and Republican John Harris are calling on Governor Palin, local Democratic Party leaders and the nine Senate Democrats to unite behind Egan, the son of Alaska's first Governor.

After local party officials sent Palin only Kerttula's name as a replacement, Palin started her own selection process, but Senate Democrats have failed to confirm her first two choices.

So far Governor Palin has not commented on the nomination.
