A 19-year-old man accused of theft and debit-card fraud is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon in Ketchikan District Court.

A criminal complaint states that Mitchell Ryan Peura of Ketchikan - along with the late Patrick Doherty - withdrew $1,580 from a credit union account.

Ketchikan Police Detective Natalie White's investigation found the card was used without permission seven times between May 15 and May 30.

Police Chief Ed Talik says Doherty died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound one day after he was interviewed about the alleged theft. The former Ketchikan High School valedictorian was 19 and had completed his freshman year at Boston University.
