A former lawmaker, gubernatorial candidate and talk show host says he will challenge U.S. Rep. Don Young in next year's Republican primary.

Andrew Halcro made the announcement Thursday.

An Anchorage business owner, Halcro ran as an independent for
governor in 2006. He came in third behind Democrat Tony Knowles and
the winner, Republican Sarah Palin.

Halcro served in the state House from 1999-2003.

Young last year won his 19th term as Alaska's sole representative in the U.S. House.

State Rep. Harry Crawford, an Anchorage Democrat, also has filed
to run for the seat.
