The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly decided to bag the bag tax.

The assembly voted Thursday to repeal the 5-cent plastic bag tax, reversing a decision it made last month.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the assembly backed off in response to members of the public who called the tax premature. They want a recycling commission to tackle the issue.

The tax would have taken effect next year
