Juneau Road Reopens Following Mudslides

Tools

Steve Brawn

A road in Juneau has been reopened and residents allowed to return home after mudslides closed down the roadway.

Gastineau Ave. was reopened at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, and residents were allowed to return to their homes, with the exception of a six unit apartment building that was damaged in Saturday's mudslides.

City Manager Rod Swope says it appears that the situation has stabilized. But he says all residents are being advised that they need to be prepared to vacate quickly if the hillside becomes unstable again.

Several homes and apartment buildings were evacuated on Saturday.

No injuries were reported.
