If everything goes according to Governor Sarah Palin's plan, an in state natural gas line will run north from the Cook Inlet. Leading the project would be the state, which would partner with Enstar and the Alaska Natural Gas Authority.

The line, said administration officials, would not interfere with the proposed gas pipeline. The proposed pipeline would begin in the North Slope and head south through Canada, all the way down to the lower-48.

460-million cubic feet of natural gas would be shipped to the Interior daily by the new line.

Palin spoke at a news conference on Monday. She said the prospective line could continue to the North Slope foothills or be connected to the TransCanada main line. The TransCanada main line is currently under consideration by lawmakers.

"There's gonna come a day when Alaskans have their energy needs met by this line, and they can live independently and can prosper," said Palin.

If the TransCanada line proposal passes the legislature, all that will remain for the in-state line is an approval from the RCA.
