      <title>Juneau Road Reopens Following Mudslides</title>

      <description>A road in Juneau has been reopened and residents allowed to return home after mudslides closed down the roadway. Gastineau Ave. was reopened at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, and residents were allowed to return to their homes, with the exception of a six unit apartment building that was damaged in Saturday's mudslides. City Manager Rod Swope says it appears that the situation has stabilized. But he says all residents are being advised that they need to be prepared to vacate quickly if the hillside becomes unstable again.</description>

      <description>Drue Pearce is leaving her job as federal pipeline coordinator of an Alaska natural gas pipeline project.&#xD;
      &#xD;
In a statement released Monday, Pearce says President Obama requested her resignation. She says it's effective Jan. 3. Former President Bush nominated Pearce for the job in 2006. According to the 2004 law passed by Congress establishing the position, the coordinator's role is to oversee the "expeditious discharge of all activities by federal agencies with respect to an Alaska natural gas transportation project" and ensure that they follow the direction of Congress.</description>
