Healy Coal Project Still Stalled

Plans to restart the dormant Healy Clean Coal Project are stalled as two electric utilities and a state agency negotiate.

The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority gave notice Tuesday that it was terminating a 2006 agreement with Homer
Electric Association.

An authority spokesman, Karsten Rodvik, told The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner it hasn't heard from Homer Electric about its intentions.

Homer Electric spokesman Joe Gallagher said management is in the
process of "transitioning away" from the Healy project.

The authority says it will continue to negotiate with the other utility, the Golden Valley Electric Association. They have until Aug. 1 to resolve differences before a court-ordered stay in litigation expires.
