UAF Prepares for Swine Flu

Concern about a swine flu outbreak has University of Alaska Fairbanks officials planning for its arrival.

School officials say the topic will be a hot one during student orientation this week, and new approaches to campus dining, housing
and medical care are being discussed.

UAF spokeswoman Marmian Grimes says the threat is particularly
significant because students will be living in conditions ripe for
transmission and people younger than 25 are disproportionately
vulnerable to the virus.

Grimes says education and prevention are the current focus. Maintenance workers will install hand-sanitizer dispensers throughout the campus, and flyers reminding students of good hygiene practices are being posted everywhere.
