School Teacher Enters The Race For Stevens' Seat

Tools

Jamey Kirk

Joining Mayor Mark Begich in the race for Senator Ted Stevens' seat, is a Nikiski High School teacher from Kenai. Bob Bird has filed for the Alaskan Independence Party nomination.

To run Bird must win the party's nomination, however since he does not face any primary opponent, he has already received the endorsement of his party.

Bird is a self-described "near-libertarian conservative" on fiscal and social issues.

In1989 Bird led the Alaska Rescue Project, a nonviolent civil disobedience campaign at abortion clinics. Bird also served as president of Alaska Right to Life from 1995 to 1997.

In 1990 Bird ran against Stevens in the Republican primary.
