Internet Scam Sent to Cyber Crimes Unit

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police say a credit card scam
came to their attention when it was sent via e-mail to the
supervisor of the cyber crimes unit.
Sergeant Ron Tidler says the fake e-mail appeared to be a
customer satisfaction survey from Wal-Mart but it was obviously a
credit card scam that has been circulating online.
The e-mail message offers the chance to win a $150 gift
certificate by agreeing to complete the survey. It then directs
users to another Web site to pull off the hoax.
Once there, users are encouraged to fill out the survey and
enter in their credit card and pin numbers so the $150 can be
applied to their accounts.
Police say Wal-Mart confirms that the e-mail is a scam. The
company does not ask for personal financial information through
e-mails.
