Game Board Makes Changes in Prince of Wales Hunts

KETCHIKAN, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Board of Game has made some
changes in the hunting of black bears on Prince of Wales Island.
No longer will hunters be allowed to use vehicles while hunting
black bears on the island.
Boyd Porter, the Ketchikan area game management biologist with
Fish and Game, says the regulation will take effect next September.
It applies to resident and nonresident hunters.
However, Porter says over 90 percent of the hunters that harvest
black bears during that time of the fall are nonresidents.
Porter says the regulation is intended to reduce the bear
harvest during September, especially the number of female bears
killed.
