As of January 1st, anyone convicted of a DUI in Alaska will be required to have a breathalyzer installed on their vehicle.
The new requirement is the latest attempt by the state to curb DUI violations. The device will require the driver to give a clean breathalyzer test prior to starting the vehicle. If the driver is over the limit the car will not function. Alaska joins five other states with similar laws which includes Washington.
