An avalanche forced a blackout in Juneau for nearly two hours yesterday affecting 15,000 homes and businesses.
AEL&P says the slide knocked down a transmission tower near the generation plant, about 45 miles outside the city.
This forced the company to switch to more expensive diesel instead of the usual hydro-powered electricity.
This is the second time the transmission tower has been damaged from an avalanche. To make matters worst rain is melting the 51 inches of snow the city has already received this year and drains are overflowing.
