KIMO news

An Anchorage police officer is on
administrative leave after wounding a man in a fast-food restaurant
parking lot.

Police say the officer overheard a disturbance late Monday. When
he investigated, he saw a man pointing what appeared to be a rifle
in the direction of people in the parking lot.

A statement from the police department says the officer feared
for the safety of bystanders, and shot the suspect -- a 17-year-old
male -- in the arm. The youth was hospitalized with non-life
threatening injuries.

Police say the youth's rifle turned out to be a BB gun with a
scope. Several witnesses were interviewed. No charges have been
filed against the teenager.

The name officer involved in the shooting won't be released for
three days per department policy
