There was emotional testimony Wednesday from the boyfriend of an Elmendorf airman killed in a fight with his ex.
Levar Macon took the stand in the murder trial of Steven Hinshaw. Macon is really at the center of this case. It was a fight between his girlfriend, Crystal St. Auburn, and ex-girlfriend Regina Bibbs that eventually led to a fatal shooting.
In the early morning hours of Nov. 25, 2003, it was Macon who drove St. Auburn to Bibbs’ house for what he thought was going to be a fist fight. Macon told the court he left and then decided to go back because he knew Regina well and thought it would be best for the two women to just fight and get it over with.
Macon said everyone was pumped up and angry but that he never chased the car with Bibbs and Hinshaw. Instead he said he was passing the other car on Lake Otis and at first didn't think much of it when he no longer saw any passengers in the car. Macon said the next thing he saw was Hinshaw pointing a gun at his car. That's when Macon says he ducked and tried to get St. Auburn to do the same.
Macon said, "She had grabbed my arm and she was like, she was gasping for air, and she was like, ‘Baby I'm hit.’ I jumped back and I looked at her and I’m like, ‘Where?’ The next thing I know, I just see the b--.”
Macon paused for a long time there before saying he saw a pool of blood and then took off as fast as he could, trying to get to Providence Hospital.
"I had glanced over. It was pretty much just like one of those scenes in a movie, everything was in slow motion, and I turned to my right real quick, and I ducked, and I reached for her. He let off like three, four shots. As I'm ducking, reaching for her to bring her down, her body locked up."
Macon will continue his testimony Thursday when the defense will get a chance to question him.
