Coast Guard Member Dies in Fishing Accident

A member of the Coast Guard in Ketchikan has died.

The Coast Guard says 31-year-old Petty Officer First Class Stefon Reid was fishing from the shore in Herring Cove eight miles south of Ketchikan on Saturday. He was hit by a wave, pulled into the water, and did not resurface.

Reid was pronounced dead after his body was recovered by the Ketchikan Fire Department.

Reid had 11 years of Coast Guard service and was assigned to Ketchikan for the past year.

The Coast Guard says Reid leaves behind four children.
