Mayor Bruce Botelho proclaimed Tuesday as Peggy Cowan Appreciation Day in Juneau.

Cowan, the school district superintendent since 2003, is leaving to take the superintendent's job in the North Slope Borough School District.

Cowan's last official day with the Juneau district is Tuesday. The district purchased an ad in the Juneau Empire, announcing the mayor's declaration and wishing Cowan well.
