Palin Pleased as Gold Mine Injunction Lifted

Wrapping up another long day of visiting remote areas of Alaska, Gov. Sarah Palin took time to tweet about a fresh development in the Kensington Gold Mine court battle late Wednesday.

On her Twitter account, Palin declared, "Barrier to Kensington Mine project is gone- good jobs on the way; stand by 4 press nnouncement."

Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp. announced Wednesday in a news release
that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted an injunction regarding the mine's 404 tailings permit.

The 9th Circuit acted after the U.S. Supreme Court last month gave the mining company the go-ahead to dump waste from the gold mine into a nearby 23-acre lake, although the material will kill all of the lake's fish. By a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court said the appellate court wrongly blocked the Army Corps of Engineers' waste disposal permit for the mine project on environmental grounds.

The Kensington mine 45 miles north of Juneau will produce as many as 370 jobs when it begins operation.
