Car Strikes, Kills Wheelchair-Bound Man

A man in a wheelchair died early Tuesday after he was struck by a car at an Anchorage intersection.

Police Lt. Dave Parker says 57-year-old Arnold Oquilluk and a friend were heading home to an assisted living center late Monday when the accident occurred. A witness told police one eastbound vehicle stopped to let the men cross, but a westbound car driven by 20-year-old Brandon Evans hit Oquilluk.

Parker says investigators are awaiting toxicology results, but it does not appear Evans was at fault.

He says the young man was visibly shaken after the crash.

Oquilluk died at a nearby hospital.
