Senators Announce Draft Energy Plan for Alaska

The two Anchorage state senators who chair the Senate Energy Committee have unveiled draft Alaska energy policy and program recommendations.

Democratic Sen. Bill Wielechowski (will-a-COW'-skee) and Republican Lesil McGuire on Monday say their committee collected testimony for six months.

The goal of the plan is to help Alaskans deal with the high cost of energy and to help develop alternatives to current energy sources.

McGuire says the committee has worked closely with the administration on the recommendations.

Among the goals are consolidation of the six Railbelt utilities for building future electric generation and transmission facilities.

The recommendations also call for appropriating $150 million more for the state's weatherization program.
