Coast Guard Rescues Two of It's Own

Tools

Steve Brawn

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two of its own.

According to the Coast Guard, Chief Petty Officer Michael Scales and Petty Officer 1st Class Steffen Frazier went on a hunting trip to Lincoln Island in Auke Bay. Their skiff took on water during their return trip to Juneau Wednesday and became grounded on a rock.

The two waded to shore in chest-high water and then called for help.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Charly Hengen says an Air Station Sitka
helicopter crew rescued the stranded Coast Guardsmen. Both were
cold and wet but in otherwise good condition.

The skiff is tied to some rocks and will be salvaged when weather permits.
