House Passes Bill Aimed at Speeding Gas Project

The House has passed legislation aimed at speeding work on an in-state natural gas pipeline in Alaska.

The bill, pushed by Speaker Mike Chenault, creates an in-state gas team that would be charged with getting a project plan to lawmakers by July 2011. The plan would have to show how a small natural gas pipeline could be financed and built by the end of 2015.

There are no guarantees a line will get built, however. It's not known yet if a line would make financial sense.

The bill moves to the Senate, which is working on another bill that would revamp the in-state gas process. Gov. Sean Parnell, who's defended his current in-state gas team as being on track, has pledged to work with senators on their bill.
