North Pole Fire Blamed on Fireworks

A Fourth of July fire in North Pole caused an estimated $350,000 damage.

Deputy Chief Steve Crouch of the North Star Volunteer Fire Department says a group of children and adults were lighting fireworks when one of the firecrackers veered off course and into a 45-foot by 80-foot garage.

The fire ignited the insulation and spread quickly, damaging the structure and its contents - a motor home, pickup truck and several
off-road vehicles.

Crouch says the blaze was brought under control in 45 minutes.
