UAA latest athletic information:

Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball coach Tim Moser announced Tuesday that point guard Kiki Taylor has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seawolves in 2008-09.

Taylor, 5-5, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was a starter for national powerhouse Western Nebraska Community College from 2005-07, playing on squads that went a combined 58-6. As a sophomore in 2006-07, she averaged 10.0 points, 3.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game, shooting 47.8 percent from the floor. Taylor ranked third in Region IX with 2.4 steals per game, helping the Cougars advance to the regional championship contest. As a freshman, she averaged 6.0 ppg on a squad that qualified for the NJCAA national tournament.

“Kiki is a dynamic talent and the true point guard that we’ve been missing,” said Moser, whose squad is coming off a 30-5 record and an NCAA Div. II Semifinals appearance. “She is strong, athletic, and helped lead one of the most efficient offenses in the JC ranks. She’s also a proven defensive stopper and huge reason that Western Nebraska led its region in scoring defense both of her seasons.”

Although she originally signed with the Seawolves before last season, Taylor spent the 2007-08 campaign away from the court. She will be a junior in eligibility when she comes to Anchorage this fall.

As a prep at Harrison High School, Taylor was the 2004-05 Colorado Springs Coaches’ Class 4A Player of the Year, a First Team All-Area pick by the Colorado Springs Gazette, and a Second Team All-State choice by the Rocky Mountain News. She was also one of 20 girls statewide chosen to participate in “The Show,” Colorado’s annual high school basketball all-star game at Denver’s Pepsi Center.

Taylor is the second member of UAA’s 2008 recruiting class, joining early signee Jazzie Gaddy (5-10, Fr., F, Anchorage/East HS).
