The University of Alaska Fairbanks has
a new women's basketball coach.
Dave Thompson is replacing Alaska Nanooks' coach Darryl Smith.
Thompson comes to the Nanooks after a five-year stint as head
coach at Hutchinson High School. He took the team from a 0-22
record in their inaugural season to a 24-5 record and the 2009
Alaska 3A State Boys Basketball Championship.
Smith had a difficult season last year. All but three of his
original 12-player lineup suffered injuries that ended their
season.
Smith says he plans to move closer to family in Montana.
